It was an incomparable night to be on Granville Island, Thursday April 26th. Performance Works was a buzz with fashionistas ready for the catwalk. It was an amazing experience to be a part of this extraordinary fashion community for the first fashion show Granville Island had hosted in a very long time. With approximately 20 businesses in collaboration, all those in attendance got a perfect image of what is offered on this, our Fashion Hub of Granville Island.
The MC’s were myself, Erin Gravelle and the current Mr. Granville Island, Nick Turcan.

The live musicians were spectacular buskers from our community as well. Thank you to Shawn Bullshields and Les Finnigan for outstanding performances!

The models were all people who work, and play in our community. Sporting this kind of diversity is so important to showcase that our fashions work for all types of bodies, ages and lifestyles. It was she show’s biggest compliment!

It is that time of year once again where we say goodbye to the summer sun and embrace the crisp fall air, which tends to go hand in hand with a bit of rain.
I absolutely love fall, and it is a blessing to be able to wear pants again without overheating, but it can be difficult trying not to wreck them in the rain. Luckily, there are some great ways to style denim when its damp and enjoy your favorite pair of jeans all year round!
The Classic Cuff
Cuffing your jeans is a timeless way to keep your pants out of puddles, as well as give your look a comfy and casual appearance.
Let the Shoes Shine
When it’s really pouring out, sometimes you have no other choice but to tuck your jeans into some ankle boots or the quintessential rubber Wellingtons. However, with some scattered showers in the forecast opting for a heeled boot will keep your pants from dragging and will work wonders at elongating your legs in a bootcut or wide leg jean.
Skinny Jeans Don’t Get Sloppy
Now if you’re anything like me, I try and avoid any extra steps in the morning when putting together an outfit. Skinny jeans are the perfect denim for rainy weather because they require no extra thought in keeping them on your legs and out of the mud.
If you’re in hot pursuit of denim this fall, come by our Main Street location to check out our great selection of Silver Brand Jeans. They’re as comfy as they are stylish!
In the event that you are lucky enough to go away for more than a month, the final modular wardrobe is for you! Also if you have minimal closet space and want everything to go together, I highly recommend this module.
The 4+4+4 consists of 4 over pieces, 4 bottoms and 4 tops to create a total of 40 outfits! Again keeping in mind that you want each top to fit nicely under each over piece while still being able to wear it on its own with each bottom.
This module allows for a bit more creativity with pairing pattern, colour and texture to be matching or in contrast. It is good to keep a consistent colour throughout or style of garments similar to have a polished put together look. Any outfit can change in an instant with different accessories, so have fun a play lots with them!
I use this module as my base to branch out from for my 1+2+3 and 3+3 modules. When closet space is minimal keep modules in mind while shopping. It keeps things organized and always seems to keep from going over the clothing budget every month.
A complete wardrobe should have the mix of all modules with a few extra special pieces that can float in between them all. Have fun with it! Don’t think so hard about it. Make it your own. We are always around at Devil may Wear to help you with your styling needs!
Advancing to the next level of style on business trips or during the work week is easy with the 3+3 Module. This module includes 3 dresses and 3 over pieces.
All pieces are interchangeable with each other to create 9 looks. Each style of dress needs to fit under the sleeve of the over pieces comfortably. Mix your textures, colours and patterns to create interest. Remember to either match or contrast these elements.
*Note: If you add a single dress to the 1+2+3, you add 2 more looks into that module. One of the dress on its own and one with the dress and over piece together. All together creating 14 outfits.
Have fun and go through your closet and see if you have naturally selecting items that make up 1+2+3 or a 3+3 modular wardrobe, I bet you would be surprised at how good you already are at making outfits!
In this blog series by Erin, your Devil May Wear Lead Stylist, I will be talking about how to make the most of your wardrobe and tips for packing when traveling this summer and into the fall. Yes, I just said “fall”. (In fashion, we think of the seasons a few months ahead so your wardrobe is ready when the weather hits, but I digress…)
My favourite module to use is the 1+2+3.
These 6 items can create 12 outfits when paired together using silhouette, colour, and texture as things they may have in common or in contrast. Each top should be able to work on its own with each bottom and all items should be able to work with the over piece. Accessories are what can change each look to be dressed up or dressed down.
When Traveling, especially for the 1-2 week vacations, this is valuable module to packing light and leaves space for souvenirs in a carry on luggage!
Heading out for a longer trip? Stay tuned for Part 2!
Is it that time of year already? I guess it is because the warmer weather, the start of blooming foliage and sunlight later in the day brings the mood to start my seasonal closet purge. It is a daunting task for most of us and I am no exception to that feeling. It starts for me with the knowledge that I don’t have to toss everything I don’t want to have in my closet. I can rework through tailoring, donate or save a few things for clothing swap parties I do with friends. There is very little I will toss out completely. There is always another use if I am not going to be wearing it anymore.
I have recently gone through my closet and found a few items that I will keep in storage for another year and a few that I will be donating and a few that have lived and died through years of love. I have a fairly minimalist wardrobe to begin with as my space dictates how much I can fit in it, but it is always a good idea to check your inventory no matter your wardrobe size.
So to start, I lay everything out on the bed in neat piles of colours. That is one of the best ways to see everything. I go through each pile and if it has holes or needs some de-pilling it goes into a laundry bin to go through for a second time later.
Second, I start creating outfits. I put one over piece with a few tops and two different bottoms that will work all together and separately. These little modules make it easy to keep a cohesive look to your style. I repeat colours, silhouettes, patterns and lengths within each module.
Anything that is left over from the modules is looked at and I ask myself a few questions;
Do I want to wear this item this season? If yes, what do I want to wear it within my modules, or should I put items on a shopping list to make it its own module? If no, do I want to keep if for another year ( it then goes to storage) or do I want to pass it along to someone else (so donating it or keeping separate for clothing swaps).
Does it work for my style this season?
Does it fit me?
Lastly, I hang everything that needs to be hung and fold things that need folding and organize it in my closet. ( I change how it is organized all the time, but that is for another blog!)
This process usually only takes me a few hours and I try to make it a fun night with a girlfriend or two and a bottle of wine. If you are doing it on your own, play some funky music and make an afternoon or night of it! It should be a fun and inspiring task. Do what feels good. And if you are feeling overwhelmed, take a break and come back to it. Remember once it is done you will feel like taking the season head on!
